Chocolate-Raspberry Oatmeal

I had chocolate chips in my oatmeal this morning and I loved it! It was just what I needed today 🙂 At the end of this article I share the recipe. But first, let’s have a short conversation. Why was it okay to eat chocolate in my breakfast? Read on please…

Have you found your food freedom yet? I’m talking about the freedom to eat what you want! I am not an expert in mindful or intuitive eating. I still have one more year of nutrition education left. But! Here’s what I have learned through my own readings and research:

It is important to nourish a positive relationship with food.

Sounds simple enough, right? It should be. However, in reality this can be quite complex. Exiting the cycle of dieting and categorizing foods as good or bad. Trying to listen to your body’s internal cues related to food. Allowing yourself to eat without feeling guilty or restrictive.

I know that I have a long way to go before I can fully claim that I am an intuitive eater. Or to use registered dietitian Ellyn Satter’s term, a competent eater. All I can do now is to continue educating myself (I’m reading Intuitive Eating) and to maintain a positive and joyful relationship with food as best as I can.

Sooooooo delicious!

♥Feel free to prepare your oats conventionally on the stove top. I tend to microwave them because I am always hungry in the mornings and therefore try to avoid becoming hangry with a quick cook time.

♥Feel free to play around with toppings! Try strawberries or kiwi as your fruit. Or try hemp seeds instead of chia seeds. There are so many possibilities!
